Does the Abu Dhabi Family Court have jurisdiction over my U.S. assets in the divorce?
Q: Hello, Both my (now) ex-wife and I are Americans and non-Muslims living in Abu Dhabi. We are going through a divorce in the Abu Dhabi Family Court. My ex-wife is suing me for a (very large) financial support package, and I am being asked to disclose my personal financial information. Two questions: 1. Do the courts have any jurisdiction over the USD assets I hold in the USA? 2. Am I required to reveal any information about my company, which is an independent legal entity based in the USA? How to get back money loaned to a friend and claim compensation for emotional damage?
Q: I am seeking legal advice regarding a financial and emotional scam perpetrated by a close friend. She borrowed money from me, promising to return it but later claimed she could not. I discovered that she has been deceiving others similarly, taking money and providing false excuses. I have evidence of her fraudulent actions and testimonials from other victims. This betrayal has caused me significant emotional distress, including severe panic attacks, as I was already healing from past trauma and depression. Given the emotional harm she caused, I am interested in knowing if I can seek compensation under UAE law. I live in Dubai, and she lives in Ajman. Could you please advise if there are legal grounds for claiming compensation for emotional damage in such cases?

How to get paid by the court after seizing the amount of the judgment from the employer?
Q: Dear Lawyers, Kindly assist please, 1. I got a favorable judgment against my employer after completing my contract without renewal. I executed and they refused to pay after Dubai Court served them notice. I made the block request which was confirmed by Al Adheed, however, the company still won’t pay (But the company pays workers` salaries in between which I can confirm). I saw an update through my account page on the court website that one of their bank accounts has the executed amount and the bank has reserved it. I just want to know how long it will take for the Court to collect the amount from the bank and pay me or if there is another process I have to take. Note- It`s been 3 months and 1 week from the Case registration date to Execution Court. 2. Also The company canceled my visa, however, I am hoping to exit the country within the amnesty grace period if I can’t get an employment offer for a new visa. Which authority do I need to inform of my situation while waiting to get paid? Thank you2024/09/27

Q: I am seeking advice on an issue involving a shady friend. She has been pressuring me to run social media ads promoting private tutoring services in the UAE, despite not holding the necessary license to offer such classes. She insisted that I use my personal information for these ads and avoid sharing any of her details, claiming it was due to concerns about harassment. However, I suspect her true motive is to avoid legal consequences as she knows this activity is illegal. She wanted me to advertise these services using my social media accounts, and in the event of inquiries, I was to pass on the students to her. My sole evidence is a phone call we had of her directing me to engage in these actions. I signed From F for a property purchase with promise on extension but it was rejected. What to do?
Q: I made an offer and signed Form F for a property purchase. My decision was based on the property assessment as an End Unit and its capacity to extend the living room to my requirements. The two agents (buyer and seller both from the same agency) confirmed that a living room extension was possible at a fee payable to Emaar. I was ok with the fee. I made an offer based on this information and signed the Form "F" prepared by the agents. Later upon receiving the CAD drawings, it was noted that Emaar would not give NOC as the living room walls were structural. I am an end user and I can`t accept this unit for the rest of my life as it doesn`t meet my needs. I want to get out of this Form "F" as my agent misled me (doesn`t matter if intentionally or unintentionally). The problem is agent is rewarded 2% for misleading me and I am facing a penalty of 10%. it is only 3 weeks into the deal and 5 weeks till signature. Can I get out of this legally and agent find a new buyer for the seller?

Can we terminate a staff member who did not return to work after annual leave?
Q: Hello, We have a staff member who was supposed to return to work on 15 September 2024 from annual leave (they went back to their home country). However, after trying to reach them, they finally told us on 12 September that they have a travel ban due to legal issues that they are being accused of. They said that they have a hearing on 13 Sep and will update us on the matter. However, we have not heard from them since then. We have tried to contact him but nothing. What are our options here? We unfortunately cannot keep waiting for them (as operationally, we needed him back), and due to this being a legal matter (we don`t want him to work for us anymore, it seems serious). Would Article 44 Clause 8 apply here? We haven`t heard from him in over 7 consecutive days, but it also states that it applies if they failed to give a legitimate reason (which technically they have?).

Should my landlord provide the exact rent increase 90 days before contract renewal?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I`m confused and seeking clarification, please! Every year, the landlord either doesn`t send the renewal notice at all or sends it without specifying the exact amount of the increase, only mentioning that it will be as per RERA market value. Am I not legally supposed to be informed of the exact amount (total or percentage) of any increase 90 days before the contract`s due date?
