Can I get a UAE passport if my family has lived there for 30+ years and my grandfather had one?

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to obtain a UAE passport. My family has been residing in the UAE for over 30 years, and I have documents to prove this.

Additionally, I have documents showing that my grandfather held a UAE passport.

Could you please let me know if obtaining one would be possible?

Thank you!

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.

Based on your family's long-term residency in the UAE (30+ years) and your grandfather's UAE passport, you may have a strong case for obtaining UAE citizenship through descent.

This ancestral connection is particularly significant. To pursue this, gather all documents proving your family's residency and your grandfather's passport, then contact the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in your emirate for application details.

Be prepared to demonstrate Arabic proficiency and meet other requirements like having a clean criminal record.

While the process can be complex, your family history suggests a promising case. However, it's advisable to consult with us for guidance through the application process, as citizenship laws can be intricate and subject to specific interpretations.

If you need further clarification or additional support, you can contact us via WhatsApp. We are dedicated to providing professional, timely, and comprehensive assistance tailored to your situation.

Thank you!

You can go to the UAE Department of Naturalization and Residency (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs) to submit an official application.

You will need to provide the following documents:

- Evidence that your grandfather was a UAE citizen (such as a copy of his old UAE passport, family book, or any other documents).

- Documents proving your long-term residence in the UAE (such as old residency visas).

- Any other documents that support your case (such as UAE birth certificates).

Dear Questioner,

Thank you for reaching out with your inquiry!

Regarding your question about obtaining a UAE passport, the process of acquiring UAE nationality and citizenship is governed by specific legal requirements.

While long-term residency in the UAE and proof of descent from a UAE passport holder (in this case, your grandfather) can be factors considered, obtaining UAE citizenship is not automatically granted based on these alone.

In general, the UAE grants citizenship primarily to individuals born to Emirati parents. While there are certain provisions for exceptional cases—such as individuals with extraordinary contributions or qualifications—the process is typically complex and discretionary.

Given your specific situation, I would recommend that we review the full set of documents you have, as there may be additional steps or pathways worth exploring, such as applying for residency or a specialized visa, or potentially pursuing naturalization under exceptional circumstances.

Please let me know if you would like to schedule a meeting to discuss the details further.

Best regards,

It is indeed possible to obtain a UAE passport under certain conditions related to residency and ancestry.

Given your family’s long-standing presence in the UAE and potential ancestral ties through your grandfather’s previous citizenship, pursuing this path could yield positive results if all requirements are met.

However, it is advisable to consult with legal experts or immigration consultants who specialize in UAE nationality law for personalized guidance throughout this process.

Dear questioner,

Your grandfather's passport might be a factor, but it doesn't automatically grant you citizenship. Your long-term residency could be considered under naturalization, but it’s a complex process with no guaranteed outcome.

There are also many other strict eligibility criteria.

If you would like to discuss the possibilities, kindly share your WhatsApp number.
