Q: Hello, I am serving my notice period with my current employer, and the day after it ends, I am supposed to join the new company. However, my current employer is telling me they will extend the notice period due to pending work. The reason I`m resigning is that I have to work 12-14 hours a day on a 9-hour shift, and there has also been mistreatment from the supervisor. Can they extend my notice period without my approval?

Agreed on rent with previous management; can new management demand increase?

Q: Dear lawyers, I am a tenant in Dubai. My current contract will expire on 24-01-25. The real estate agent gave me the renewal paper on October 15 with a 5% increase in rent, as per the RERA index, which I accepted. However, after a few days, the building management changed, and the new real estate team sent me a new contract on November 12 with more than a 10% rent increase (less than 90 days before the contract expires). When I inquired with them, they told me that they are the new management, and I have to follow their instructions or vacate the flat. Otherwise, they will send an evacuation notice. What can I do?

Clarification on rent increase beyond 20% as per RERA Rental Index

Q: I hope you are well. I am currently renting a warehouse in the Al Qusais area, and the landlord has informed me that he intends to increase the rent based on the RERA Rental Index. He believes the current rent is too low compared to market rates. However, the proposed increase would exceed the 20% cap, which I understand is the usual limit for rent increases. According to the RERA Rental Index, rents in Al Qusais range from 43 to 58, and the current rent is below this range. Could you please clarify if the landlord is allowed to increase the rent beyond the 20% cap in this case, considering the RERA Rental Index? Is it possible for the rent to be increased as per the index, or is the 20% cap the absolute maximum allowed?
