Can I claim compensation from the building management if my car was damaged in the garage?
Q: When I returned from my travel, I found that my car was damaged in my building garage. It looks like some corrosive fluid was sprayed on the top and one of the car door`s paint and the roof-top glass are damaged. I`ve contacted the building manager company twice, but no answer from them. What should I do?

My employer holds my passport and asks for visa expenses to cancel it. Should I pay?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I am an expatriate in Dubai. I joined a company in Dubai, and my contract started in November 2023. It is a limited contract. Due to some issues with the management, they informed me that I would have to leave the company in March 2024, which I did. Upon asking them to cancel my visa so I can return home, they said I have to pay around 5000 AED towards the visa expenses. I have asked them for the exact amount, but they haven’t provided it yet. My passport is with them. I would like to check whether I have to pay the visa expense to them. Since I am not aware of the formalities, I haven’t approached the Labour Department to get my passport back to leave. I fear they may cause more trouble if I initiate a complaint. I would like to seek your valuable advice on how to proceed to claim my passport and exit UAE. Please help!

How to remove the absconding status placed by the visit visa agent after getting a job offer?
Q: Hello Sir/Madam, One of my friends came to the UAE on a Sharjah visit visa and got a job here. The employer applied for their employment visa and they received acceptance and an entry permit until 16th May. However, before changing his status from visiting to employment, the visit visa agent put an absconding status on him. Now he`s being blackmailed and demanded 7000 AED to remove the absconding status, and he also faces an overstay fine of 2300 AED. Please suggest how we can deal with this matter with lesser fines, remove the absconding status, and get the employment visa. Thank you!

The floods damaged my property. Who fixes it and compensates me?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, My property in Dubai was damaged due to floods and is now mostly uninhabitable. The property management/builder is not taking any steps to rectify the situation. Much of the damage occurred because a water pump in the nearby lake (part of the community) failed. If it had not failed, much less water would have entered the property. Does construction and lower rent in my building justify refusing a rent increase?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, The landlord is increasing the rent by 15% this year, 17% last year, and also 17% the year before. I refused and told her it’s not fair; a 5% increase is reasonable due to the 1-year non-functional swimming pool and the construction area around it. It has been ongoing since last year without completion (the entire area and swimming pool have been broken since last year) due to a court case between the management and the developer. The index shows a 15% increase in the same area, but the rent in my building is much less than that. Does the ongoing construction work, which has not been finished for a year now and may never be finished as long as the court case is open, matter?
