Am I liable to pay the rent and fines after selling the shop if there is no contract with the landlord?
Q: The landlord has filed a case against me for not paying the shop rent. I notified the owner when I sold the shop in Feb 2022 and the POA was given to the new owner but he took my EID in the contract for renewal. He said it was just for one month and after that, the new owner would cancel the contract because he didn’t have EID for renewal. I requested NOC several times from the landlord but they didn’t give it to me. My contract in which he took my signature expired on 16 March 23 and all the cheques were paid, and the payment was done by a third party too till Sept 24. From March 23 till Sept 24, I didn’t make any agreement with the landlord. Also, the trade license expired in Dec 2023 and was not renewed. I have no idea how the landlord collected cheques till Sept 2024 without a contract, and he doesn’t have any copy of the contract with him. Now he filed a case against me with old documents instead of the new owner`s name in the case. It is sold to 3 people after me. My question here is, am I liable to pay the rent and fines?

What to do if you get terminated and denied gratuity for a minor mistake?
Q: My brother has been working for a company for 11 years. In the last 3 weeks, he had an incident/accident and scratched a plane since he only had 1 person to assist him as the company was not hiring enough people. Senior staff like him are working more to train inexperienced new hires which adds to their workload working almost 12 hours/day including travel to DWC. The pilot said it was aesthetic and could be painted over but a police investigation ensued. Last week 3 managers and HR talked him down as the investigation concluded. He was terminated immediately with only this month`s pay and his 11-year gratuity will not be given by the company. It was not gross negligence or malicious intent, he just didn’t have enough people to help him. He owned up to the mistake and reported the incident within 24 hours. Can he fight for the gratuity?

Q: I hired two law firms to help resolve my rental dispute case, but both betrayed my trust. The first firm was to settle my balance at Sharjah Municipality. In November 2023, they asked for 50% of AED 70,942 to initiate an installment plan. Trusting them, I transferred the amount, believing it would go to the municipality. By June 2024, I discovered a travel ban was imposed on me. When I confronted the firm, they admitted the money never reached the municipality, claiming someone in their company took it. In October 2024, I hired another firm, they asked me to pay 8,000 AED upfront as lawyer’s fees. After that, they became unresponsive, ignoring my messages and providing no updates. Now, I’m unsure how to recover the AED 37,244.50 from the first firm and AED 8,000 from the second. I’ve lost trust in the legal system and don’t know how to proceed. I tried to find an Emirati lawyer, thinking it would be better, but my case always goes to a legal consultant. What should I do?+2
