Does construction and lower rent in my building justify refusing a rent increase?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, The landlord is increasing the rent by 15% this year, 17% last year, and also 17% the year before. I refused and told her it’s not fair; a 5% increase is reasonable due to the 1-year non-functional swimming pool and the construction area around it. It has been ongoing since last year without completion (the entire area and swimming pool have been broken since last year) due to a court case between the management and the developer. The index shows a 15% increase in the same area, but the rent in my building is much less than that. Does the ongoing construction work, which has not been finished for a year now and may never be finished as long as the court case is open, matter? Can the court expert extend the timeline of delivering his report?
Q: In my misdemeanor case of 150,000, the case is in the upper court and is with the Ruler`s Court expert. The case went to the Ruler`s Court expert in October 2023, and the expert picked the case in Jan 2024. He said that the report will be ready in Apr 2024. Now there is a 2-month extension. Is there any timeline as to how much time the expert can take? Also, is there a maximum time as to how much time the case can stay in the upper court?

Two years ago, a friend and I embarked on a bed space business venture without obtaining a trade license. While I covered the full investment, my friend took responsibility for managing the flat. Can the school refuse to give the teacher NOC to do private tutoring?
Q: Hello, I am a teacher, working full-time with a school in Abu Dhabi. I have students and I do tutoring, now, tutors must obtain a tutor permit from MOHRE and MOE. However, an NOC is needed from the employer/sponsor. I emailed HR and being unhelpful they refused to give me an NOC knowing very well that I oblige to the conditions and do not tutor my own students or any student from the same school and my work is during my own personal time.
