The agent promised me cashback, but he’s left the company and they won’t pay. What can I do?
Q: Hello, An agent from a company in the housing space promised me a percentage cashback from the brokerage if I booked the house through him. He sent this understanding via both his company and personal email. After regular follow-ups, he paid a certain percentage but claims the company is not willing to release the remaining amount. The agent has since left the organization and started his own business, and I am left hanging to deal with the company on my own. I have never visited or had any contact within the company. Please help or guide me in the right direction, as the amount is my hard-earned lifetime savings and is considerably large.

Q: Hello, If my husband has a mental disorder and cannot provide financially for me and my son, what can we do in this situation? Although his family is financially capable of helping, they are not supporting him. He cannot afford housing either. They are not contributing to his medical care or any of his expenses. I can manage my own and my son`s expenses, but it`s difficult to cover my husband`s as well. Is there any law that can make his family responsible for paying his expenses and medical care?

Can my employer charge me training fees even if I didn’t receive any certification?
Q: Hello, The Second Party shall be obliged to pay back the value of the training (which is estimated at AED 10,000) if they terminate the employment contract of their own free will within one year from the date of commencement, without prejudice to the First Party`s legal or contractual obligations. (The amount agreed upon for the value of the training period must be commensurate with the employee’s period of employment.) I have that clause in my labour contract regarding the training fees, but despite completing 359 days of service with the company, I have not received any such certification from them. Now, the company is refusing to cancel my employment and is demanding that I pay AED 10,000. In response, I filed a complaint with the Labour Department requesting the cancellation of my labour card. However, the process is being delayed, and meanwhile, the company has filed a counter-complaint against me, demanding the full AED 10,000. What can I do?

Can somebody hire me and then fire me before I finish my probation period?
Q: I`m a chef living in Dubai, UAE. I got a visa and work permit from another company, but I started working as a private chef for a UHNW individual at his home. I have worked there for 2 months and 21 days, and I got paid for that, but after that time, they fired me without any notice or reason. What does the labor law say? Am I entitled to 3 months` pay or not? They didn`t even give me a termination letter; they just told me that verbally, and I don`t have a visa or work permit with them.

There is no divorce law in the Philippines, and even if there were, it would take a significant amount of time and money. Could you please advise if I can file for divorce in the UAE through the Family Court or Sharia Court? What are the chances that my divorce will be granted? What can you do if the bank filed a case against despite paying the loan by insurance after losing job?
Q: Hello Sir, My friend had a large personal loan and paid installments for 1.5 years before losing his job. A criminal case was filed in 2019, but he was cleared with a fine as the judge accepted that job loss insurance covered the loan. Funds were credited (shown in the statement & SMS), and customer service confirmed twice that the loan was cleared. He also paid AED 10K+ interest for the insurance. A year later, a cheque case was filed by a debt company and bank—he won with the same documents. Now, in Jan 2025, the bank filed a commercial case. The court appointed an expert, but the expert ignored his evidence. he showed that a key page of the contract (stating job loss insurance) was missing from the bank’s submission. The bank told the expert the credited amount was a “loan write-off,” but gave no proof. The expert never investigated his findings. I need advice on whether this verdict can be appealed and whether it’s worth pursuing further. My friend is in India now

تقدمت لاستخراج شهادة بحث الحالة فظهرت قضية قديمة في سجلاتي. كيف يمكنني إزالتها؟
س: مرحبًا، السلام عليكم، لقد تقدمت للالتحاق بـالقوات المسلحة الإماراتية، وعند استخراج شهادة بحث الحالة الجنائية/شهادة حسن السيرة والسلوك باسم جهة الطلب (وزارة الدفاع)، ظهرت قضية قديمة لي. القضية هي جنحة بسيطة عندما كنت حدثًا، وتم إيداعي بموجبها في دار الملاحظة. استخرجت صورة الحكم الخاصة بها، والصادرة بتاريخ 2012، ونحن الآن في 2025. فبعد مرور أكثر من 10 سنوات، لا تزال القضية موجودة في سجلي الجنائي، رغم صدور كفّ البحث، وكوني كنت حدثًا، ومر على الواقعة أكثر من 5 أعوام. كنت أتساءل: هل من الممكن محوها بأي طريقة، واستخراج شهادة نظيفة؟ عندما ذهبت إلى مركز التسهيل لتقديم طلب شطب، أخبروني أن الخيار الوحيد المتاح هو تقديم طلب رد اعتبار. الحكم الصادر هو: بالنسبة للقضيتين رقم [-----] جزائي الأسرة، بمعاقبة المتهم بالإيداع في دور التربية والإصلاح. أخبرني الضابط المسؤول عن شهادات حسن السيرة والسلوك أنه لا يمكنه استخراج شهادة من أجل طلب الشطب لمحكمة بني ياس، ونصحني أن أبحث عن عمل خاص وأنسى موضوع العسكرية. كيف يمكنني استخراج شهادة للمحكمة؟

What can I do if the real estate management is not fixing the issue of blocking noise in my apartment?
Q: Hi, I rented an apartment 4 months ago, it is managed by a real estate company. I am going through a technical issue in the unit; the balcony door does not block the noise, and I live near a couple of construction yards. The property manager sent his team several times to fix the issue, and it only got worse (they replaced the original brushes with weaker ones). The balcony is attached to the bedroom, and I cannot use the bedroom for sleeping due to outside construction noise, especially during the night. Even earplugs do not help with the strength of the noise. The property manager is currently ignoring my requests to fix, saying that they cannot get a refund for the wrong fix, and according to them landlord does not agree to pay for another brush replacement. We have had an email exchange with the property manager for this issue for 3 months already. I don`t want to go through the DLD route, which is expensive (3K AED to register a case) and probably slow too. What are my options? Thank you very much!2025/06/26

I was surprised that the company cut off our landline and mobile communications on the pretext that he was monitoring a debt of 167,000 dirhams. How can I refund the amount of online tickets in Dubai for fraudulant misrepresentation?
Q: Last Friday, I was booking tickets for the Miracle Garden on some Dubai tickets website, and on the OTP page, it showed 225 to be paid on my phone. The otp was added automatically, and I couldn`t read the message properly. It turns out 4,225 got deducted from my account. I immediately called the bank, and they said they can`t reverse the transaction, fill out the dispute resolution form, etc. Even tho the transaction was in process today, the transfer shows complete. Is there a way to get it back? I registered an online complaint with the Central Bank and cybersecurity. I really need the money with my rent coming up, please guide me.2025/06/03
