Can my employer force me to serve an extra month after my resignation?
Q: Hello, I am writing to clarify the situation regarding my resignation. I officially resigned on December 31st, 2024, and according to my understanding and the initial agreement, my notice period was to end on January 31st, 2025. However, my contract was amended a few months ago to reflect a two-month notice period. I would like to emphasize that I have not signed this amendment, and the employer is blaming me for not signing the amended contract and will take action against me. Please let me know how you would like to proceed, as I am eager to ensure a smooth transition and complete all required handover tasks within the original notice period. I have already completed my notice period, but the employer is still forcing me to serve one more month, which I cannot do as I have another company to join on February 14th. I can`t afford to lose this opportunity. I am currently working in the aviation industry in Sharjah, and my visa is a freezone visa. Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.

The ladder to the roof of the row of townhouses is on my property. Am I obligated to give access to the ladder?
Q: I live in an end townhouse I own in Dubai. The only ladder to the roof of the row of townhouses is on my property and there is no way of getting to the ladder without going onto my property. This has led to lots of people entering my yard, opening the access to the ladder, and heading to the roof. The ladder is right next to my front door, and while it is in use it blocks the path to my door. No one has asked me if they can do this. Am I required to give access to the ladder? There is no clause in my title deed that shows it as an easement. Can I deny them access? If someone falls while using the ladder, am I liable for damages?

Q: Hello Team, I`m contemplating submitting a formal complaint to the RDC against my former landlord, who evicted me on the grounds of personal use of the property. I have enough evidence to proceed with the case, but I`m uncertain about one aspect that might be questioned by the Dubai Courts. I received an email and a signed paper notice of eviction, but I did not receive an official eviction notice via the Dubai Courts system. Why is my verdict to pay a fine in a bounced cheque instead of paying the amount of the cheque?
Q: My criminal case (cheque case) verdict is: "The court ruled in his presence convicting the accused and punishing him with a fine of (five thousand dirhams - 5,000 dirhams) for the charge. Assigned to him and obliged him to pay the prescribed judicial fees" I`m just confused that if I`m guilty of the accusation, why the punishment is to pay a fine and not to pay the amount on the cheque?2025/01/20

What to do if the landlord sent me a rent increase notice to an unregistered mail?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I filed an offer & deposit but due to the nonresponse of the landlord, the case was rejected as confirmed by RDC. 1. Offer & deposit filed at the beginning of Jan 2025, supported by the Dec 2024 RERA Rental Index, which indicated no rent increase for my lease expiring in Jan 2025. However, the landlord mentioned that the updated RERA Calculator for this year reflects a 5% rent increase. 2. The landlord claims to have sent a rental notice over 90 days prior, but the email was sent to an unregistered address. As per the tenancy contract, the email address they used is not the official one. RDC advised me to wait for the landlord to file a case against me, as I am not in urgent need of Ejari. However, I am concerned about potential legal repercussions for non-payment of rent & would like guidance on the following: • Do I have a compelling case based on the details above? • How & where can I deposit the cheques to avoid the landlord suing me for non-payment? Q: Once the judgment is issued in misdemeanor court, can we object to the judgment to reconsider the judgment and ask for one more hearing to change the judgment?
