I got a new job and had to cancel my old residence visa, what to do with the visas of my dependents?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I have a residence visa and my 4 dependants (spouse and 3 kids) are under my sponsorship. I want to know if I got a new job and had to cancel my old residence visa, then what about my daughters` visas? Would I cancel them prior to my visa cancellation? Or are there any options for holding their visas and transferring to a new visa?

Why did my employer falsely file an absconding case against me?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, Before my visa expired, I informed my manager and the owner that I did not want to renew it. I have all the proof that I left the job and the accommodation with the owner and manager`s approval. However, after a few months of waiting for my cancellation papers, they falsely filed an absconding case against me, which they later removed, citing a filing error and miscommunication with the owner`s staff. Is there any reason for the employer to do that? Could it be to avoid fees or something else? Please help me!2024/05/29

What can I do if the villa I rented is not in a livable condition and the rental cheque bounced?
Q: Hi there. I have taken a villa for rent in Mirdif, Dubai, and the owner handed over the property in an unlivable condition. So I didn`t want to stay in the property and wanted to end the contract. For now, the last rent cheque bounced and I am concerned that the landlord might file a case. I need legal help with the same.

Can the real estate management increase my rent without notice?
Q: Hi. My contract expired 4 months ago and I am trying to contact my current landlord who was a bank. They were telling me to go to the office and renew it. I visited the office, and they told me we sold this building and the new owner will contact you. I was trying to renew because I need Tawtheq for the bank and other work. After 4 months, the new management company sent me an email in which they increased the rent and also added a service charge of AED 3000 and an admin fee of 500, which was not in my contract. This is my 4th year in that office. Please let me know how I can go legal for my rights, also they told me if you will not pay we will go legal.

Should I file an appeal in family court to cancel maintenance if my ex-wife got job?
Q: The court judgment issued yesterday rejected the divorce case filed by my wife and ordered me to pay her AED 2000 monthly as marital support as she is living separately. Additionally, I have filed a restitution case against her to return home, which will begin next week. Should I file an appeal in court to cancel this monthly amount or wait until the restitution case ruling is finalized? Please note the following: 1. My wife left our marital home and started living in a non-mehram’s home. She is now living separately with our 8-year-old daughter. 2. She is currently employed and started working after leaving the marital home (she was not employed before leaving home).

Q: Dear lawyers, I have been divorced mutually in Dubai. The children have been living with me because my ex-wife chose to live with her boyfriend. Due to financial conditions, she chose a new life with a new man, abandoning the kids and her past. Now, as I legally want custody, she is creating drama, and her current boyfriend is taking advantage. She had a relationship with him before the divorce. I couldn`t file for adultery as I was focused on my career and children. Can I do it now? All evidence is present. How can I take my kids to home country to protect them from my abusive husband?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, My husband is refusing to renew my residency, and without it, I will lose my job by the end of this month. Since he wants me to go back to Nigeria, I asked him to allow me to take my kids, but he refused. I can`t leave the kids alone in Dubai because he constantly abuses them physically, verbally, and psychologically. When he is angry, he beats them with a drumstick even when they do nothing wrong and threatens to send them to a village in Nigeria to work on his dad`s farm. He slaps them hard, and the boys cry to me for comfort. He asked them to call me a witch and a bad person. When I was not working, he beat me constantly, saying it was because I was lazy and refused to get a job, despite my explanation that I had been trying. I need legal advice on how I can be allowed to take the kids with me back to Nigeria. Please, I want to find out what I can do.

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, According to Emirati law (361 of the Family Code), any "heela" (legal stratagem) that causes the circumvention of the law can be nullified. Does that pertain to inheritance cases? For example, if a man gives away most of his assets to his wife but does not provide anything for his children, and then he dies, can this be challenged on the basis that the man tried to avert the requirements of the law in distributing his assets fairly?
