Retrieving a passport from a car impounded for driving without a license
Q: Hi sir, I drive a car in Ajman without a license. On a visit visa those days, Ajman police caught me and I forgot my passport and other belongings in the car. They impounded the car, so how can I get my passport back from the car? My case is finished. How do I get my passport back so I can apply for a visa and then a job? Please suggest me. Thanks!

Can a landlord force a higher rent increase after sending a notice?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I am currently renting a flat in Dubai, and my landlord has sent me a rent increase request 90 days before the renewal date. I have replied to the same email stating my difficulties and requesting to maintain the same rent as last year, and I mentioned that I will leave the flat if my request is not considered. I have sent two reminders since then, but it has been around 14 days from my first email, and they have not yet responded. Will I be forced to renew at the higher rent?

Is email eviction notice considered legally accepted notification?
Q: Hello, Landlord sent an eviction note by email asking to confirm it by email as well. I already confirmed by email that I received her email. It has been 12 months and she is claiming that she wants to move into the apartment. I read several threads; some say that her claim does stand as it is similar to registered mail, while others say it has to be an official registered mail. From common sense, the landlord did get a confirmation that the tenant acknowledges receipt of the intent of eviction. From a literal legal perspective, she did not use registered mail. I suspect that this situation is frequent and I would like your experience based on what is recently happening in courts, and not only an interpretation of the law, as the concern is that two judges might interpret this part of the law differently.2023/05/01

Can my former employer sue me for writing a bad review online?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I recently wrote a bad review on Google about my former employer (a clinic). I wrote about its micromanagement and toxic work environment. Everything I wrote was 100% true, and I did not violate any confidentiality or publish any false information. Now, my former employer has threatened to sue me for defamation. They say I will be sentenced to jail or fined. Is this legally true? Am I really in trouble?

Dealing with a pool contractor who used faulty materials causing leak?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I am looking for some advice. Twelve months ago, we hired a contractor to install a concrete pool. To date, we haven`t been able to use the pool due to a leak. They keep trying to "fix" it, but I have no confidence in them anymore. Last week, another contractor came to the villa to look at it testing some of the fittings that I thought could be the reason. He removed some of the fittings and gave me a gut-wrenching comment. The concrete used for the pool is, in his opinion, "not good." What course of action can I take now? I obviously need to get the pool fixed, but I`m assuming the contractor won`t accept liability. Can I involve the DM (Department of Municipality)?2023/04/30

I paid deposit for a car from a dealership to discover the car has hidden defects. How to get refund?
Q: My wife and I went and saw a car at a dealership in the Sharjah car market. The dealer claimed the car had a very minor accident. We asked for some scratches to be fixed as a condition to buy, and he agreed. We paid 1000 dirhams and signed. later, he asked for another 4000. I transferred another 4000 online to him, so in total I paid 5000 Dirham, and sent him a note about the expectations, and he responded back with “agreed” on Whatsapp. A few days later he said the car is ready. We went but none of what we agreed on was done. He asked us to come back again on Monday. On my request, he sent this note on Whatsapp and agreed to refund the deposit on Monday if the car was still not ready. On Monday the car wasn`t ready. I asked for my refund as he agreed before but he refused. I asked for a receipt of my 4000 payments. He forged the document and added a note about the 4000 on the document that I already signed, to make that a non-refundable! Later I found the car also had a major accident and he distracted us.2023/04/29
