Can the collection agencies pursue a legal action against me in my country for unpaid debts in the UAE?

Dear Sir

One of my friends took a loan and credit cards from various banks and ran away to Pakistan as he lost his job.

Can anyone chase him in Pakistan?

Actually, he was a victim of fraud, and the person who did this is in jail, and the other ran to Pakistan.

My friend made civil cases and won both. One is in jail for the first case, and the other ran to Pakistan. That's why he defaulted on payment.

UAE banks might engage international debt collection agencies that operate in Pakistan to try and recover the funds.

The methods these agencies can use are subject to Pakistani law. If the loan defaults are a direct consequence of these fraudulent activities, this might be a factor, but it doesn't automatically absolve him of the debt to the banks.

Winning civil cases against the fraudsters in the UAE doesn't necessarily mean the banks will drop their claims against your friend.

The commercial and banking cases would be better to provide the documents, at least the judgment, because there are details in between that can make a difference.

So please, if you have a copy, provide it to us, to give you a solution and the exact action you shall take.

Hello,

In most cases, UAE banks or collection agencies do not actively pursue individual defaulters in Pakistan unless the debt is very large or involves criminal elements such as fraud or bounced cheques.

However, it is possible, though rare, that a bank might hire an international debt collection agency or coordinate with local authorities in Pakistan if bilateral agreements exist.

Dear Sir,

It depends on the bank. If the amount exceeds 5,000 dirhams, they may execute the judgment in the person’s home country.

Since there is an agreement for exchanging individuals and judgments between the UAE and Pakistan, there is a possibility that they may pursue enforcement in Pakistan.

However, ultimately, this decision rests with the bank.

Should you require legal assistance, please feel free to contact us by phone or via email.

Best regards,
