Can I close my UAE fixed deposit remotely with a POA if I can't travel?

Hello,

I am outside the UAE and canceled my UAE residency 2 years ago. I have an ENBD account with a fixed deposit of 10,000 AED and a credit card linked to that fixed deposit.

Both were suspended a few months ago due to not having residency in the UAE. I want to close the fixed deposit because I need the money now, but I cannot travel to the UAE at the moment.

If I give someone (or a lawyer) power of attorney, can they go to the bank branch and close the fixed deposit for me? I have no cases against me, no outstanding loans, and the credit card balance is fully paid.

The bank informed me that I must first close the credit card, then wait 45 days before closing the fixed deposit in person at the branch. However, I cannot go to the UAE for the next 6 months.

How much would the process cost if I do a POA and hire a lawyer?

Dear Questioner,

Good evening!

The issue here is not solely about the POA but the possibility of a case filed by the bank against you. We must check your name and case details to verify if there is any legal matter or restriction linked to your account.

Understanding the exact status of your case is essential to determine the appropriate steps to assist you.

Please share your details with us so we can investigate the matter and provide the necessary support.

Sincerely,

Mohammad Salah

Yes, you can authorize someone through a Power of Attorney to close your fixed deposit account at ENBD while you are outside of the UAE.

Ensure that all documentation is properly prepared and notarized according to legal requirements.

The estimated cost for this process could range between AED 1,500 and AED 7,500 depending on various factors involved in hiring legal assistance and processing fees.

The charge for POA will be 500 AED, and there is an associated cost for engaging the lawyer to handle the procedures.

If you need further assistance, kindly share your WhatsApp number.

Under UAE law, you can grant a Power of Attorney (POA) to someone or a lawyer to close the fixed deposit on your behalf.

However, you must first close the credit card and wait for 45 days as required by the bank.

We recommend contacting us for assistance with issuing the POA and clarifying the process in detail.

Our center specializes in such cases and will provide you with full legal support.

Dear Sir,

Greetings of the day,

According to UAE law, it is possible for you to give someone a power of attorney to act on your behalf and close your fixed deposit account.

However, the process and cost may vary depending on the specific circumstances and the lawyer you choose to hire.

To give someone power of attorney, you will need to draft a power of attorney document and have it notarized by a notary public in your current country of residence.

You will also need to provide a copy of your passport and any other relevant documents to the person you are giving power of attorney.

Best regards,

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.

To close your Emirates NBD account from abroad, you can complete the account closure form and email it to the bank using your registered email address.

Ensure your account is active and in good standing, with no outstanding debts. Attach a self-attested copy of your passport and any other required documents, such as your credit card and unused cheques.

However, Emirates NBD typically requires account holders to be present for closure, which may complicate matters if you're unable to travel.

If necessary, consider contacting the bank for specific guidance on handling your situation remotely.

Thanks & Regards,

ABDUL WAHIED
