Can accompanying my cousin for a phone delivery that led to a theft case cause legal issues at work?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I was with my cousin, who owns a phone shop, to deliver a phone. When we reached the location, my cousin handed the phone to the buyer for inspection.

The buyer grabbed the phone and ran away. We chased him, and I caught him. I called the police and filed a case. Now, I have received a message saying, "Your case has moved to prosecution."

I am working for another company as an accountant. What is the process, and will there be any legal issues for me because I accompanied my cousin?

Dear Questioner,

When you receive a message stating that "Your case has moved to prosecution," it means that the police investigation has concluded, and they have handed the case over to the public prosecutor.

The prosecutor will now review the evidence and decide whether to pursue criminal charges against the thief (or anyone else involved).

The prosecutor may call you as a witness to testify in court, or they may decide there is enough evidence to proceed without further involvement from you, depending on the case details.

If you're called as a witness, you may need to attend court on the day of the hearing. In this case, you should inform your employer in advance that you will need time off to attend court.

Witness testimony is generally not something that will impact your employment unless the case directly involves your company or you’re asked to provide detailed information that requires a significant amount of time off.

For further assistance, kindly share your WhatsApp number.

While there may be some logistical challenges in attending court or meetings related to this case, there should not be significant legal repercussions for your employment unless further complications arise.

Greetings,

In principle, the worker is not allowed to leave work during official working hours without permission.

However, we believe that there is no connection between your work and what you did outside of work.

At most, the employer may take disciplinary action against you, such as deducting this day from your salary, for example.

We are honored to provide you with legal support. For further inquiries about your topic, you can come to our office or contact us via phone, WhatsApp, or email at [----------].

There are no worries; the case is following its process, and this is the second step through prosecution.
