The landlord is not returning the security cheque and has filed a case

Dear sir/madam,

My Eijari got rejected and I don't have a rental lease signed. But I paid rent for 3 months, security, and local fees.

I had given a cheque for 1 year. Now, the landlord is not returning my cheque and has filed a case against me.

What should I do in such a case?
