Q: I had signed up with an immigration consultant for immigration to Canada. According to the contract I would be refunded the full amount if my application did not get through in a year. I had asked for a refund and they have only approved 2560/- out of around Dhs 9500/-. I need help to resolve this issue. Thanks.

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I applied for Canada immigration in August 2020 and paid 4,000 AED for the process, with a guaranteed 100% refund if they couldn't get me immigration. To date, nothing has happened. When I asked for a refund, they said they could only give me 1,500 AED. I lost money, time, and opportunities in other areas due to this immigration process. Q: Good Morning, A fraudulent company committed to providing results from the AIP program in Canada. I paid approximately AED 80,000 in November 2023, and they gave me a post-dated cheque to ensure my amount. They failed to deliver the results as promised; the owner himself decided to roll back the program and proceed with a refund, but he eventually did not fulfill his commitments, even after agreeing to installments. We have been chasing him since March 2024, but he is not responding. He has nothing to say, and currently, he is not in the UAE. In this case, how can I recover my hard-earned money, which is for our children? How can I file a case? Currently, I am living in Saudi Arabia. I know there is some platform where I can raise an online complaint, but I’m not sure how long it could take to finalize the case. What are the chances of winning? Many people have been trapped in this fraud; I am not the only one. The owner committed this fraud through his sales employee with over 100 victims.

The Law sets up the legal framework for the protection of consumer rights in the UAE. The Law establishes the Higher Committee for Consumer Protection and the Consumer Protection Department, and sets up the fines for breach of its provisions.

According to this Decree, tentative approval to admit a foreign worker for the purpose of employment in the UAE cannot be granted until an Employment Offer that conforms with the Standard Employment Contract is duly signed by the employee and presented to the Ministry of Labour.

This Law applies to merchants, as well as to all acts of commerce carried out in the UAE by any person even though he be not a trader. Commercial matters regarding which specific Federal laws are issued shall be subject to the provisions of such laws, and to the provisions hereof which do not contradict with said laws.

The provisions of this law, promulgating UAE Civil Code, govern the civil transactions in the United Arab Emirates. The commercial transactions remain subject to the laws and regulations applicable in their regard.

The provisions of this Federal Decree-Law No. (31) of 2021 Promulgating the Crimes and Penalties Law, known as the "New UAE Penal Code", governs criminal actions in the United Arab Emirates. The New Penal Code repeals the previous UAE Penal Code (Federal Law No. (3) of 1987 Promulgating the Penal Code).
