Extending the notice period in unlimited contracts
On an unlimited contract which says 3 months notice, the employer has taken in writing 6 months notice separately.
My friend gave notice. 4 months passed and he wants to leave the UAE urgently. The employer is holding his passport and not releasing it.
If the employer gives a labour ban, no problem, but he wants to avoid a travel ban. What are the options?

يرجى ملاحظة أن المادة 117 من قانون العمل الإماراتي تنص على أنه يجوز لكل من صاحب العمل والعامل إنهاء عقد العمل غير المحدد المدة لسبب مشروع في أي وقت لاحق لانعقاد العقد بعد إنذار الطرف الآخر كتابة قبل انتهائه بثلاثين يومًا على الأقل. حتى وإن كانت مدة فترة الإشعار ثلاثة أشهر في العقد، فإن العقد صالح.
ثلاثة أشهر هي الحد الأقصى لفترة الإشعار المنصوص عليها.
