How to open a bank account in the UAE without visiting a bank in person

Is it possible to open a personal bank account in the UAE without visiting a bank in person? Can I authorize any other person to be my legal representative for this purpose or, may be, send the required documents via courier service?

Yes, you can issue a power of attorney in favor of a lawyer or any person to open a bank account. The POA must be notarized and legalized from the ministry of foreign affairs and require a special procedure so that the bank would accept the same.

Thanks. Could you, please specify wich special procedure did you mean?

I have approached few banks in Dubai and they told me that they can not accept any power of attorney (even notarized and duly legalized). Bank executive explained to me that they need to meet the person in the branch, check his documents and take the signature specimen witnessed by the bank representative.

I do not know why the bank provided such information when I myself have opened an account on behalf of my brother a few years back with a power of attorney. So perhaps its a new regulation, I advise that you try other banks and the contact the Central Bank for further information.

The special procedure I meant, notarizing before the notary public, then legalizing from the ministry of foreign affairs, translation if necessary etc.
