What can our company do if the client cancelled the order and threatened to file a case for the cancellation fee?
Q: Salaam Alekum We had a client from the US who had an agreement with us for 19-20 big buses for 20 days of transport service in KSA. They cancelled 12 buses and then the entire order 2-3 days before the event. They paid around 25% of the total cost initially agreed on 50% before the event. We have been keeping those buses on hold for more than 1 month, not taking other bookings, and facing losses. My company is charging them 50% cancellation fees because of last-minute cancellation, but now the client is threatening us to take legal action and doing PR advisement by asking for the deposit they paid. Our policy is refund will be issued within 45 days after internal investigation, but the client is threatening us again. We don`t give a refund if the cancellation is done by the client and mentioned on the invoice as well. In this case, we are considering a solution which takes time. What can we do in this situation, as we have already faced lots of loss?

How to claim an amount transferred by mistake to a company which is not responding or returning it back?
Q: An "A" individual / Company by mistake transfers/deposits some funds to another "B" company. "B" company, despite certain follow-up efforts with "A" Company to recall or claim back the wrong payment, remained unresponsive, and “A" company could not track the depositor information. In such cases, what is the time frame within which "A" Company is liable to retain in suspense? Can "A" company deny the claims of "B" company in the future, as it was written off by "A" company after a few months of tracking.

A travel agent promised us a guaranteed visit visa to Canada and failed to obtain or return our money. What to do?
Q: My friend and I gave 31500 dhs to a lady in Dubai who is also a Canadian citizen. She approached us as a travel agent for a Canadian visit visa and a fake appointment letter for a job, too. She said if we do not get a visit visa, then she will return the whole amount. It has been two years, and she has not given us the money back. She is in Dubai and making excuses. Our whole conversation is in WhatsApp messages about money, too; we have those offer letters, too. Please, I need good advice, how to get our money back? I work in a big company as a sales assistant.

I made a complaint about my stolen money and could not attend the hearing. Will I be penalized?
Q: Salaam alaikum, I made a complaint at the police station in Barsha about my stolen money 2 months ago. I left the country for a short while soon after that, but since I don`t know the process, I got missed calls from Dubai prosecution and a message from them to visit them on June 15th. I didn`t go since I was outside the UAE, and when I called them back, no one answered the call. Anyhow, 3 days ago, the Dubai Public Prosecution portal shows the person was sentenced for theft, and I also got a message that a judgment has been passed. I just want to know if I`ll be penalised for not attending prosecution, or stopped at immigration when I`m returning. Jazakallah Khair!

Can I get my overstay fines waived after a case was recently closed?
Q: Hi, I would like to seek legal assistance. I am currently overstaying due to a complaint registered against me last year, which was not closed even after it was settled. Only today, I received a letter from Dubai Prosecution about the lifting of my travel ban and the closure of the case. Is there any way I can file to claim a waiver for my fines or at least a fine reduction? I only came to know about this case/complaint when I was trying to renew my visa last April, and due to this, I was not able to renew it on time. Please assist. Thank you!

Q: Hello, I received a notice from the Amicable Settlement Department at Dubai Court regarding a financial amount I need to pay to an individual who lent me the amount. I’m willing to pay it back; however, I am negotiating the payment terms. I have two questions: 1. What is the procedure of the Amicable Settlement Department, as I only received a notification without any other information? 2. Will I be able to negotiate a settlement, and how? Please advise. The agent promised me cashback, but he’s left the company and they won’t pay. What can I do?
Q: Hello, An agent from a company in the housing space promised me a percentage cashback from the brokerage if I booked the house through him. He sent this understanding via both his company and personal email. After regular follow-ups, he paid a certain percentage but claims the company is not willing to release the remaining amount. The agent has since left the organization and started his own business, and I am left hanging to deal with the company on my own. I have never visited or had any contact within the company. Q: Hello, If my husband has a mental disorder and cannot provide financially for me and my son, what can we do in this situation? Although his family is financially capable of helping, they are not supporting him. He cannot afford housing either. They are not contributing to his medical care or any of his expenses. I can manage my own and my son`s expenses, but it`s difficult to cover my husband`s as well. Is there any law that can make his family responsible for paying his expenses and medical care?

Can my employer charge me training fees even if I didn’t receive any certification?
Q: Hello, The Second Party shall be obliged to pay back the value of the training (which is estimated at AED 10,000) if they terminate the employment contract of their own free will within one year from the date of commencement, without prejudice to the First Party`s legal or contractual obligations. (The amount agreed upon for the value of the training period must be commensurate with the employee’s period of employment.) I have that clause in my labour contract regarding the training fees, but despite completing 359 days of service with the company, I have not received any such certification from them. Now, the company is refusing to cancel my employment and is demanding that I pay AED 10,000. In response, I filed a complaint with the Labour Department requesting the cancellation of my labour card. However, the process is being delayed, and meanwhile, the company has filed a counter-complaint against me, demanding the full AED 10,000. What can I do?

Can somebody hire me and then fire me before I finish my probation period?
Q: I`m a chef living in Dubai, UAE. I got a visa and work permit from another company, but I started working as a private chef for a UHNW individual at his home. I have worked there for 2 months and 21 days, and I got paid for that, but after that time, they fired me without any notice or reason. What does the labor law say? Am I entitled to 3 months` pay or not? They didn`t even give me a termination letter; they just told me that verbally, and I don`t have a visa or work permit with them.

There is no divorce law in the Philippines, and even if there were, it would take a significant amount of time and money. What can you do if the bank filed a case against despite paying the loan by insurance after losing job?
Q: Hello Sir, My friend had a large personal loan and paid installments for 1.5 years before losing his job. A criminal case was filed in 2019, but he was cleared with a fine as the judge accepted that job loss insurance covered the loan. Funds were credited (shown in the statement & SMS), and customer service confirmed twice that the loan was cleared. He also paid AED 10K+ interest for the insurance. A year later, a cheque case was filed by a debt company and bank—he won with the same documents. Now, in Jan 2025, the bank filed a commercial case. The court appointed an expert, but the expert ignored his evidence. he showed that a key page of the contract (stating job loss insurance) was missing from the bank’s submission. The bank told the expert the credited amount was a “loan write-off,” but gave no proof. The expert never investigated his findings. I need advice on whether this verdict can be appealed and whether it’s worth pursuing further. My friend is in India now+6

تقدمت لاستخراج شهادة بحث الحالة فظهرت قضية قديمة في سجلاتي. كيف يمكنني إزالتها؟
س: مرحبًا، السلام عليكم، لقد تقدمت للالتحاق بـالقوات المسلحة الإماراتية، وعند استخراج شهادة بحث الحالة الجنائية/شهادة حسن السيرة والسلوك باسم جهة الطلب (وزارة الدفاع)، ظهرت قضية قديمة لي. القضية هي جنحة بسيطة عندما كنت حدثًا، وتم إيداعي بموجبها في دار الملاحظة. استخرجت صورة الحكم الخاصة بها، والصادرة بتاريخ 2012، ونحن الآن في 2025. فبعد مرور أكثر من 10 سنوات، لا تزال القضية موجودة في سجلي الجنائي، رغم صدور كفّ البحث، وكوني كنت حدثًا، ومر على الواقعة أكثر من 5 أعوام. كنت أتساءل: هل من الممكن محوها بأي طريقة، واستخراج شهادة نظيفة؟ عندما ذهبت إلى مركز التسهيل لتقديم طلب شطب، أخبروني أن الخيار الوحيد المتاح هو تقديم طلب رد اعتبار. الحكم الصادر هو: بالنسبة للقضيتين رقم [-----] جزائي الأسرة، بمعاقبة المتهم بالإيداع في دور التربية والإصلاح. أخبرني الضابط المسؤول عن شهادات حسن السيرة والسلوك أنه لا يمكنه استخراج شهادة من أجل طلب الشطب لمحكمة بني ياس، ونصحني أن أبحث عن عمل خاص وأنسى موضوع العسكرية. كيف يمكنني استخراج شهادة للمحكمة؟
