Verbal abuse case delayed – what are my options for resolution and expediting the process?
Q: Hello, A verbal abuse complaint was filed against me, though there are no witnesses and no direct evidence. There are a few indirect WhatsApp messages that may be open to interpretation. The police filed a case and seized my phone. It has now been over three months. The police transferred the case to the public prosecutor; however, it was returned with a recommendation for settlement or referral to a one-day court. The complainant previously refused to settle and now does not answer police calls. The police have now sent the case back to the prosecution due to a lack of response. What can I expect next? How can this be expedited? What happens if this person does not reply to the prosecution either?

How can I exit a partnership linked to an expired license and accumulating fines?
Q: Good Day! I am a partner in a trading license with two other individuals. Both of them were managing the business together as a cash-based operation without a bank account, while I was working elsewhere as an employee. Now, one of the partners has passed away, and his parents are in conflict with the remaining partner, claiming he owes them money. However, the surviving partner insists that no money is owed and that everything is settled. The license has now expired and cannot be renewed because the deceased partner’s family is not cooperating, leading to fines due to the inability to renew it. Additionally, the remaining partner continues to conduct the same business, occasionally purchasing items under the company name. As I am a low-salaried individual and cannot afford court fees, is there a way to remove myself from this situation, or are there any authorities who can assist me in this matter? I am willing to help and provide whatever is required as evidence in this case. Please advise!

How do I fight false forgery claims from my estranged husband over a car sale he approved in jail?
Q: Dear Lawyers, My estranged husband filed a false criminal complaint against me out of revenge. He claims I forged his signature for a car sale that he fully agreed to while in jail in 2022 but now denies out of spite. He was arrested in 2022 on drug trafficking charges and imprisoned at Al Barsha Jail. He agreed to sell our car (registered in his name), so I had a Power of Attorney (POA) drafted, which he signed while in jail. When I attempted to have it notarized, I was informed that the POA had to be processed from jail. I notified him, and he instructed me to proceed with the sale, assuring me he would finalize the paperwork after his release. The buyer, a family friend, took the damaged car (with flat tires, a dead engine, and a dead battery) based on trust and my husband’s verbal agreement. Now that he has been released, he denies agreeing to the sale and is falsely accusing me of forgery because I have refused to meet with him. He has physically abused me multiple times and has used threats of violence against my family to stop me from leaving. Please, I need legal advice on how to fight these false charges.+2

Q: I hope you are well. I am currently renting a warehouse in the Al Qusais area, and the landlord has informed me that he intends to increase the rent based on the RERA Rental Index. He believes the current rent is too low compared to market rates. However, the proposed increase would exceed the 20% cap, which I understand is the usual limit for rent increases. According to the RERA Rental Index, rents in Al Qusais range from 43 to 58, and the current rent is below this range. Could you please clarify if the landlord is allowed to increase the rent beyond the 20% cap in this case, considering the RERA Rental Index? Is it possible for the rent to be increased as per the index, or is the 20% cap the absolute maximum allowed?
