How to fight a harassment case filed against me in Dubai while I was in Singapore?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I was a Dubai resident until 2018. I then moved to Singapore, where I had a dispute with my ex-girlfriend over stolen property that belonged to me. She filed a harassment case against me in Dubai while I was in Singapore. I came to Dubai last week for a holiday, and the police detained me at immigration, placed a travel ban on me, and took my phone. The harassment took place while I was in Singapore, and she was in Dubai. Can the Dubai police still confiscate my phone and place a travel ban on me?

We are a medical center in Abu Dhabi that provided round-the-clock PCR services to the staff of a Marine company in Abu Dhabi between July and November 2022. The credit period for payment has expired more than 4 months ago, and the company has not provided any updates regarding our outstanding payment of over 100,000 AED.

The landlord wants to increase rent above RERA Index. How to renew my contract?
Q: My landlord was asking for an unjustified rent increase of 9K, while the RERA calculator showed 3K. He was threatening to go through the Rent Valuation process, however, he only gave me a notice period of 83 days. According to Dubai Decree No 43 of 2013 and Law No 33 of 2008, landlords are required to provide a 90-day notice period before making any changes to the rental contract, including increasing the rent amount. Failure to comply with this notice period entitles the tenant to refuse the rent increase. As the current contract is coming to an end by the end of next week, I have made several attempts to reach out to my landlord and his real estate agent to reiterate my interest in extending the contract and collecting the rental cheques at the old prices. Also, I kindly requested that they provide me with the contract as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I have not received any response thus far, and considering that this week is a holiday week, I do not know what to do. Sincerely,

How to recover a debt from a coworker in the UAE?
Q: Hello Khaled, I lent AED 5,000 to someone I work with. The person promised to pay back in a few months but it`s been years and he still owes me 2,000 AED. Which date does the tenant vacate: lease end or notice date?
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I bought a property that was transferred to my name a few days ago. The previous owner had served a legal notice to vacate (reason: sale) and renewed the lease agreement for 9 more months three months after serving the notice, to align with the notice to vacate. After the transfer, I was able to access Ejari via the Dubai Rest app and saw that Ejari was renewed for 12 months instead of 9 months. Does this mean that the tenant has the right to stay until the end of the Ejari date or the date on the legal notice and lease agreement? FYI: The date on the notice served via the Dubai Court is January 31, 2024. The lease agreement is January 31, 2024, but Ejari is April 30, 2024. My wife and children are moving to Dubai by February 2024, and I need the house for myself. Please help!

Q: Hello, I seek guidance regarding an issue I am facing with the air conditioning in the common areas of the building where I reside. The facilities management of my building recently decided to turn off the air conditioning in all common areas, including the reception lobby and corridors on all floors. Upon inquiring about this issue, I was informed by the management that they do not have any air conditioning set up in these areas. This contradicts the fact that the air conditioning was functioning correctly in previous years but was discontinued this year. Can the employer hold my dues and sue me for deleting work Whatsapp from my phone?
Q: Hello, A friend of mine is currently facing a situation with her employer for which I would really appreciate some advice. My friend basically gave her resignation papers. While serving her notice period, the company took away her company SIM card, Email access, files access, etc. after which my friend deleted WhatsApp from her phone. It contained company information and clients so she didn`t want to have that WhatsApp on her personal phone since she`s no longer supposed to have access to anything at this point. After deleting WhatsApp, the company is now making all sorts of allegations and they`re holding her pay and passport. They even raised a MOHRE complaint against her for 5 different claims one of which is damaging property and some stuff like that. Now, they are basically telling her to give them back all that WhatsApp information then she can go, otherwise, they will sue her in court. My question is, is she obligated to give back those conversations from WhatsApp or not?

Traveling to home country after joining a new company with a visa in process
Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I have an offer from another company in Dubai. I currently work for a Free Zone Company in Dubai, and I joined last year on a 2-year visa. I will be moving with 1 year still left on my visa. I have already informed my new company that I want to travel to my home country after 2 weeks of joining, and they have allowed me to do so. However, I am worried that if my current employer does not cancel my visa on time and my new company is not able to process my visa in the meantime, I will not be able to come back to the UAE.
