Can my father prevent me from traveling if I am 19 years old?
My father is my guardian and family sponsor. What legal rights does he have over me?
I am 19 years old and I want to leave the country.
Greetings.
As long as you are under 21 years of age, you will need the approval of your guardian when traveling outside the country.

Under UAE law, once you turn 18, you are legally an adult and have the right to make your own decisions, including traveling.
However, if you are on a family-sponsored visa under your father, he may have the authority to cancel your visa or prevent you from traveling if there is a legal case against you.
We specialize in these cases, and you can contact us on WhatsApp for a detailed legal consultation.
Dear questioner
As per law, you have attained the majority age and you have the right to leave, however, there are restrictions depending upon the cultural norms if you are an Emirati.
If you need to know more about the norms and laws, kindly share your WhatsApp number.
Your father cannot legally prevent you from traveling after the age of 18.
❌ There is no law in the UAE that requires the guardian’s approval for adult children to travel.
✅ You can leave the country as long as there is no travel ban or legal restrictions against you.
✅ If your father tries to forcefully prevent you, you can resort to the police.
