Should I report excessive overtime beyond labor law limits that impacted my well-being to MOHRE?
Dear UAE legal team,
My last working day is today. While working for my ex-employer, I have consistently worked overtime, often exceeding the legal limits outlined in UAE Labor Law (Articles 17, 18, and 19). This includes working on weekends and late into the night specifically in April 2024.
While I have submitted overtime requests and received payments for these hours, I believe that the excessive workload has negatively impacted my well-being and may have violated labor laws.
Should I report this to MOHRE, and will this be beneficial to other employees?
Would appreciate your responses/guidance!
Dear Lawyers,
UAE labor law (Articles 17, 18, and 19) sets clear limits on working hours and overtime to protect employees’ health and well-being.
Reporting to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) would bring attention to any violations of these regulations by your employer.
MOHRE generally views excessive working hours as a serious matter, especially if it impacts employees’ well-being or results in labor law breaches.
Reporting can lead MOHRE to investigate the employer’s practices, which may result in better enforcement of legal limits for current and future employees.
If multiple employees face similar conditions, MOHRE might take additional steps to ensure that the company complies with legal standards.
MOHRE could impose penalties on the employer if they find that labor laws were violated. Gather all relevant records, such as timesheets, overtime requests, email communications, and any documents showing your overtime work in April 2024 and beyond.
Dear Questioner,
Thank you for reaching out regarding your concerns about your working conditions and overtime compensation.
It’s essential to prioritize your well-being, and I understand the stress that excessive workloads can cause.
Under UAE Labor Law, employees are entitled to specific rights regarding working hours and overtime compensation.
If you believe that your ex-employer has violated these laws, reporting this matter to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) can be a beneficial step.
Not only can this help address your situation, but it may also serve to protect other employees facing similar challenges.
Before proceeding, I recommend gathering all relevant documentation, including your overtime requests and any communication with your employer. This will strengthen your case.

Greetings,
In order to rule on overtime hours, the worker must prove that the employer assigned him the overtime work and that he actually performed the overtime work.
If the worker is unable to prove it, his request will be rejected.
