Can the employer ask me to apply salary reductions for the team I am managing?
My employer is pushing me hard to review the salary structure of my team and give him the percentage of reduction for each individual member and share it with the finance department.
I am not HR, not the hiring manager, given that the company is going through financial hardship.
Why is he pushing me to do it instead of him doing it as part of his authority?
Is there any difference legally?
Is he seeking implied consent?
Legally, there is no difference between your employer doing this himself or asking you to do it for him.
He is still responsible for the decision, and he is still liable for any legal consequences that may arise.
However, if you are the one who actually implements the salary reductions, you could be seen as an accomplice, and you could be held liable as well.
Dear Client,
Thanks for your question, I hope you are doing well. I will definitely assist you in this matter.
It's unusual for an employee not in an HR or managerial role to be tasked with assessing salary reductions for a team.
Possible reasons could include cost-cutting measures, delegation, or seeking input.
From a legal perspective, the key is ensuring that any salary changes are carried out in compliance with UAE labor laws and employment contracts.
Discuss your concerns with your employer or HR for clarification on your role.
