How to recover a debt from a coworker in the UAE?
Hello Khaled,
I lent AED 5,000 to someone I work with. The person promised to pay back in a few months but it's been years and he still owes me 2,000 AED.
I have WhatsApp chat and transaction references. He keeps saying he will pay me back but he is not fulfilling any promise.
Please advise me if it is worth pursuing this matter and if I would be able to recover the amount, along with any expenses incurred in legal action.

There are two options that can be done for you:
(i) Lawyers to serve a legal notice and follow up with the other party (the debtor) consistently to settle the matter; or
(ii) To consult a lawyer and file a case in the court of the relevant jurisdiction.
Since the pending amount is 2000 AED, you better settle it with the opposite party, because the legal expenses for serving a notice (drafting, charge for POA, and public notary attestation) will be around 1500 AED.
