How can a Pakistani expat start practicing law in the UAE?
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am an ex-pat from Pakistan with an LLB degree and two years of post-graduate experience. I am registered with both the Punjab Bar Council and the Lahore Bar Association as a practicing lawyer.
I am interested in starting my legal practice in the UAE, but I am unsure about the process.
Is there a bar council in the UAE that I need to register with to obtain a practicing license?
Additionally, what steps do I need to take to become a legal advisor in the UAE and start practicing law here?
Dear questioner,
You must have a legal and permanent residence in the United Arab Emirates throughout the period of registration of your name to practice the profession through the office of one of the national lawyers registered in the practicing lawyers’ roll.
Article (10): The practice of the legal profession is limited to national lawyers, after the lapse of five years from the date of entry into force of this law.
Dear questioner,
There is a government site "the legal profession system" for the operation of legal counsel, and you will find the terms therein.
Of course, you should get a job in a law firm, or a legal advisory firm, first of all.
