How to claim the passport back from employer to go on an urgent leave?

I have been working in a restaurant as an assistant manager for a month and now I have an emergency at home so I have to go to India as soon as possible.

But my passport was collected by the company at the time of joining.

How can I ask for my passport?

What if they refused or took too much time in replying/sending the passport?

It's really difficult.

Kindly help and tell me about the right legal way, it’s URGENT.
