We also took pictures of the car and consulted Mercedes UK for advice on what should be replaced, if anything. They advised that it was minimal and would cost at most 200 AED to repair. I offered to pay this as well. Since returning to the UK, I have been receiving daily messages threatening me with police action and arrest upon my return to Dubai if we do not pay the money. We paid a 2000 AED deposit on a credit card, which they advised is released. I have written confirmation of this. However, my card has now been charged 2300 AED without my authorization, which is likely fraudulent.

Q: I rented a car from a person and in our conversation on WhatsApp, I asked if he works for the shop and he confirmed he is the owner. I rented that car. One person came and handed the car over to me. I signed only on the checklist for car inspection then I had an accident in the car. I called the police and made a police report then I discovered that he is not working for that company and he is not the owner of the car I took. He wants me to pay 25% + stoppage days for the car rental. I tried to reach the company that owns the car and they told me over the phone that the car was out without agreement. What should I do now and to whom I should pay the claim? I don't know the owner car company and what is their policy.

Q: I have a problem with a driver who took my car whilst I was out of the country and imposed many fines and black points and caused an accident. He also stole money from my maid that we had left for her whilst we were out of the country. Originally, he admitted to the crimes and went to the traffic department with my husband and said to transfer the points - but they could not due to his license expiry. He has now renewed his license but refused to take responsibility and says he can't afford to pay. We now can not re-register the car and he is refusing to take the black points and pay the fines. We have been advised by the police and Dubai Courts to open a civil case against him. He has 8 black points on his license, and he has now impounded my car with 23 black points. The fines amount to AED 11200 and stole a further AED 2150. Can you please advise me of the process and the cost I would incur if I was to open a civil case against him?
