Car rentals charged me for a GPS tracker and PRO service fees. Is it legal?
Hello,
Car rentals charged me for a GPS tracker and PRO service fees. Is it legal?
Be advised that charging for a GPS tracker or PRO service by a car rental is generally legal if it is clearly stated in the rental agreement; however, any undisclosed or hidden charges can be legally challenged.
For more details, please share your WhatsApp number.
Car rental companies in the UAE are allowed to include certain administrative or service-related charges; however, these must be clearly stated in the rental agreement you signed. A GPS tracker fee or PRO (Public Relations Officer) service fee can only be charged if:
- The cost was disclosed and agreed in writing before or at the time of signing; and
- The fee relates to an actual service provided to you (for example, vehicle tracking for security or handling registration documents).
If these charges were not mentioned in your contract, or you were not informed in advance, you may have grounds to dispute or request a refund of the unauthorized charges under the UAE Consumer Protection Law.
I can review your rental agreement and correspondence to confirm whether these charges are legally enforceable and assist you in filing a complaint or sending a legal notice if needed.
The legality of charging GPS tracking device and PRO service fees depends on whether these fees are included in the original rental contract.
If so, they are legal, provided the company has properly agreed to them. However, if these fees are suddenly imposed on you without your prior consent, please check the contract details or contact the car rental company to determine the legal basis for these fees.
