I have a fine in a criminal case judgment that I cannot pay at once. How to apply for an installment plan?
Hi to all the respected lawyers here.
I have a criminal case, and I fought for a long time to remove the 1st and 2nd judgments, which were deportation and jail time. In my final judgement, my penalty is AED 10,000.
Last year, during amnesty, since I couldn't pay the 10,000 AED (I am a single mother with a 2-year-old baby), I decided to surrender at the police station. Because I have a court fine, they refused to take me and sent me to the Sharjah police.
When I went there, I told the officer in charge that I couldn't pay and that I wanted to serve jail time and be released once I completed the required days. The officer did not accept me and sent me to apply for an instalment plan.
However, my instalment application was rejected; they said instalment payments are not being accepted at the moment and that the order came from the Abu Dhabi court.
Now I am really hopeless and feel I cannot live here anymore.
Dear Questioner,
Thank you for sharing the details of your situation. I understand how difficult this is for you, especially while caring for a young child.
Please note the following:
Court Fine: The AED 10,000 fine remains enforceable. If payment is not made, the court may convert the fine into a custodial sentence, but this is at the discretion of the execution judge.
Installment Requests: Each emirate applies its own procedures. Some courts currently require a formal application supported by financial evidence, and not all accept instalments.
Next Action: We can submit a renewed application to the court’s execution department requesting either an approved payment plan or, if necessary, conversion of the fine to the minimum custodial period permitted by law.
Supporting documents such as the final judgment, your passport copy, proof of income, and any correspondence showing the previous refusal will be required.
Please send us these documents so we can review them and prepare the necessary filing on your behalf.
We will also follow up with the court to confirm whether any new payment or amnesty provisions may apply.
Kind regards,

Dear Inquirer,
I’m sorry you’re going through this; you still have options.
Please gather all court judgments, police reports, the refusal/denial letters about the installment, and any evidence of your financial hardship and family situation (e.g., birth certificate of your child).
With those documents, a lawyer can:
• Review the final judgment and enforcement steps;
• Apply to the court or Public Prosecution to reconsider enforcement, request a stay, or seek alternative enforcement (humanitarian relief or conversion options); and
• Represent you in negotiations or court if needed.
This situation is urgent; please book a consultation via our website or authorize our office to review your documents and act on your behalf so we can advise the best immediate step.
Best regards,
Dear questioner
Try again with the Abu Dhabi authority to get an installment offer for the fines, that is the only way to reduce it, or else you need to pay the full amount.
If you need more details, kindly share your WhatsApp number.
I understand the stress and hopelessness you must be feeling, especially as a single mother with a young child.
From what you explained, the deportation and jail sentence were already overturned, and now you only have the AED 10,000 penalty remaining.
The difficulty you are facing is that neither surrender for jail time nor installment payment is being accepted, leaving you stuck in between.
In situations like this, there are still legal remedies available. Depending on your circumstances, we can explore:
Filing a petition to the competent court to request either suspension, reduction, or community service in place of payment.
Applying through legal channels for reconsideration or a grace period based on humanitarian grounds (especially considering your child’s dependency).
Exploring legal options to challenge the rejection of installment payments through the right judicial authority.
I can study your documents and court orders in detail and prepare an application to the relevant court or prosecution authority so that your matter can be resolved legally and you can have peace of mind.
Please reach out to me directly on WhatsApp or by phone so we can discuss your case in detail and take immediate steps to resolve it.

The decision to refuse to pay the fine in installments may be temporary, and there are legal options available.
Keep in mind that the refusal to receive and hand you over to prison indicates a financial violation in the ruling, not a criminal case requiring an alternative punishment.
